The green in the green conversation _

Successes that go beyond

The ‘Up for a green chat?’ plants come from the LocalTea tea plantations in Zundert. Local cultivation and production provide a significant sustainability advantage, namely a very short supply chain. By thinking out of the box, this tea could come into existence.

MARNIX likes to think differently but has (yet) nothing to do with LocalTea; he simply enjoys sharing successes that go beyond.

Background LocalTea

As the owner of a nursery garden specializing in unique plants, Johan Jansen became fascinated by the cultivation of tea plants. His interest was also piqued by the craft of producing various types of tea through specific processes. This enthusiasm led him to become the grower and maker of sustainable quality tea from European soil. Upon returning to the Netherlands, Jansen went all out to cultivate his own variant of the Camellia Sinensis, ensuring the plant feels at home in the European climate. After eight years of innovation and improvement, he had a winter-hardy tea plant. The leaves are also suitable for home consumption.

Now, he produces tea through his company LocalTea, with tea leaves originating from his own tea plantations in Zundert. Local cultivation and production offer a significant sustainability advantage, namely a very short supply chain. “This saves the company a whopping 90 percent of energy and water,” says business partner and tea maker Dionne Oomen. “Our tea is also much fresher than the 200 other teas in Dutch supermarkets.”

“In our entire company, simplicity and honesty are paramount. We share a passion for tea and aim to create improvements for both people and the environment.”
